Proper activator selection and usage is critical to the success of persulfate oxidation and will be dependent upon many factors, including: target contaminant, site lithology and hydrogeology, site constraints such as underground utilities and surface structures, and cost. FMC's Environmental Laboratory now performs the Klozur Demand Test (KDT) to assay the persulfate soil oxidant demand (SOD) for your site. The SOD (also known as natural oxidant demand) is the amount of oxidant that is spent on reactions with non-target compounds, such as soil organics and reduced metals. For many sites, the SOD may be a signficant component to the total persulfate oxidant demand needed to remediate the soil and groundwater. As a result, measuring the SOD is critical to insure proper dosing of Klozur persulfate to reach site clean-up goals. Call your FMC technical representative for more information.
