25-Aug-2009 FMC granted US patent on the activation of persulfate with a pH modifier capable of maintaining a pH of greater than 10 for the remediation of contaminant soil and groundwater

FMC was granted a US patent on the use of a pH modifer capable of maintaining a pH of greater than 10 for the activation of persulfate for the remediation of contaminanted soils, groundwater and waste water.  The US Patent Office awarded Patent 7,576,254 to FMC on August 18, 2009. "High pH" or alkaline activation is a popular approach to activate persulfate, generating an oxidative system capable of treating a wide range of organic contaminants of concern, including chorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons.
